9345. They shall not dwell in thy land. That this signifies that evils shall not be together with the goods of the church, is evident from the signification of “the inhabitants,” of whom it is said “they shall not dwell in thy land,” as being evils (see above, n. 9342); from the signification of “dwelling,” as being to live (n. 1293, 3384, 3613); and of “dwelling with” anyone, as being to live or be together (n. 4451); and from the signification of “the land,” as being the church in respect to good, thus also the good of the church (n. 9325).

4451. And ye shall dwell with us. That this signifies life, is evident from the signification of “dwelling,” as being to live (see n. 1293, 3384, 3613). Thus “to dwell with us” is to live together, and to make one church.
