1297. The fact that and bake them until baked symbolizes evil rising out of self-love can be seen from the symbolism of baking and being baked and of fire, sulfur, and tar in the Word. These images are used to portray desire, especially the desires that go with self-love. In Isaiah, for example:

Our house of holiness and our prize jewel, where our ancestors praised you, has become a fiery conflagration, and all our pleasant things have become a ruin. (Isaiah 64:11)

In the same author:

Conceive garbage; give birth to chaff. Your fiery wind will consume you. Thus the peoples will be burned into lime. Thorn prunings will kindle with fire. (Isaiah 33:11-12)

There are many other places besides. Burning and fire relate to desire because they resemble it.
