127. Internal Meaning of Ezekiel, Chapter 4

Representation of the perverted church in the church. (2)

1-2 He should represent the falsities of the church, and the church besieged by them. (2)

3 He should represent the hardness of their heart, from which it is that they have no fear; (2)

4-8 he should also represent the church besieged by falsities of evil and evils of falsity. (2)

9-16 He should represent the falsification and adulteration of the sense of the letter of the Word, (2)

17 by which everything of the church has perished. (2, 3)

12 And thou shalt eat it as barley cakes, and thou shalt bake it with dung that cometh out of man, in their sight.

Commentary

 

Sixth commandment

  

In Exodus 20:14 and Deuteronomy 5:18, this signifies in the spiritual sense not to adulterate the goods of the Word, or to falsify its truths. (True Christian Religion 314)

In the celestial sense, it signifies to recognize and love the holiness of the Word. (True Christian Religion 315)

In Exodus 20:15 and Deuteronomy 5:19, this signifies in the spiritual sense, not to deprive others of their faith by falsities and heresies. (True Christian Religion 318) In the celestial sense, it signifies recognition that all divine power belongs to the Lord alone, and that no angel will claim personal merit or righteousness for his own powers or abilities.
