5408. 'And [Joseph's ten brothers] went down' means an aim and endeavour - an aim and endeavour to acquire truths to itself, and to make these its own, through factual knowledge. This is evident from the meaning of 'going down' - going down to Egypt - as an aim and endeavour.

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

2 Now the earth was formless and empty. Darkness was on the surface of the deep. God's Spirit was hovering over the surface of the waters.

3 God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.
