¹ และพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับข้าพเจ้าว่า "จงไปอีกครั้งหนึ่ง ไปสมานรักกับหญิงคนหนึ่ง ซึ่งเป็นคนรักของชู้และเป็นหญิงล่วงประเวณี เหมือนพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงรักวงศ์วานอิสราเอลอย่างนั้นแหละ แม้ว่าเขาจะหลงไหลไปตามพระอื่น และนิยมชมชอบกับขนมลูกองุ่นแห้ง"

² ดังนั้นแหละ ข้าพเจ้าจึงได้ซื้อนางมาเป็นเงินสิบห้าเชเขลกับข้าวบารลีหนึ่งโฮเมอร์ครึ่ง

³ ข้าพเจ้าจึงพูดกับนางว่า "เธอต้องรอฉันให้หลายวันหน่อย อย่าเล่นชู้อีก อย่าไปเป็นของชายอื่นอีก ส่วนฉันก็จะไม่เข้าหาเธอด้วย"

⁴ เพราะว่าวงศ์วานอิสราเอลจะคงอยู่อย่างไม่มีกษัตริย์ และไม่มีเจ้านายเป็นเวลานาน ทั้งจะไม่มีการสักการบูชา หรือเสาศักดิ์สิทธิ์ หรือเอโฟด หรือรูปพระ

⁵ ภายหลังวงศ์วานอิสราเอลจะกลับมา และแสวงหาพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเขา และแสวงดาวิดกษัตริย์ของเขาทั้งหลาย และในกาลต่อไปเขาจะมีความยำเกรงต่อพระเยโฮวาห์และต่อความดีของพระองค์

⁴ "Yet let no man bring a charge, neither let any man accuse; For your people are like those who bring charges against a priest.

⁵ You will stumble in the day, and the prophet will also stumble with you in the night; and I will destroy your mother.

⁶ My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you may be no priest to me. Because you have forgotten your God's law, I will also forget your children.

⁷ As they were multiplied, so they sinned against me. I will change their glory into shame.

⁸ They feed on the sin of my people, and set their heart on their iniquity.

⁹ It will be, like people, like priest; and I will punish them for their ways, and will repay them for their deeds.
