¹ അതിന്റെ ശേഷം അബ്രാമിന്നു ദര്‍ശനത്തില്‍ യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു ഉണ്ടായതെന്തെന്നാല്‍അബ്രാമേ, ഭയപ്പെടേണ്ടാ; ഞാന്‍ നിന്റെ പരിചയും നിന്റെ അതി മഹത്തായ പ്രതിഫലവും ആകുന്നു.

² അതിന്നു അബ്രാംകര്‍ത്താവായ യഹോവേ, നീ എനിക്കു എന്തു തരും? ഞാന്‍ മക്കളില്ലാത്തവനായി നടക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ; എന്റെ അവകാശി ദമ്മേശെക്കുകാരനായ ഈ എല്യേസര്‍ അത്രേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

³ നീ എനിക്കു സന്തതിയെ തന്നിട്ടില്ല, എന്റെ വീട്ടില്‍ ജനിച്ച ദാസന്‍ എന്റെ അവകാശിയാകുന്നു എന്നും അബ്രാം പറഞ്ഞു.

⁴ അവന്‍ നിന്റെ അവകാശിയാകയില്ല; നിന്റെ ഉദരത്തില്‍നിന്നുപുറപ്പെടുന്നവന്‍ തന്നേ നിന്റെ അവകാശിയാകും. എന്നു അവന്നു യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടുണ്ടായി.

⁵ പിന്നെ അവന്‍ അവനെ പുറത്തു കൊണ്ടുചെന്നുനീ ആകാശത്തേക്കു നോക്കുക; നക്ഷത്രങ്ങളെ എണ്ണുവാന്‍ കഴിയുമെങ്കില്‍ എണ്ണുക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. നിന്റെ സന്തതിഇങ്ങനെ ആകും എന്നും അവനോടു കല്പിച്ചു.

⁶ അവന്‍ യഹോവയില്‍ വിശ്വസിച്ചു; അതു അവന്‍ അവന്നു നീതിയായി കണക്കിട്ടു.

⁷ പിന്നെ അവനോടുഈ ദേശത്തെ നിനക്കു അവകാശമായി തരുവാന്‍ കല്‍ദയപട്ടണമായ ഊരില്‍നിന്നു നിന്നെ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുവന്ന യഹോവ ഞാന്‍ ആകുന്നു എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

⁸ കര്‍ത്താവായ യഹോവേ, ഞാന്‍ അതിനെ അവകാശമാക്കുമെന്നുള്ളതുഎനിക്കു എന്തൊന്നിനാല്‍ അറിയാം എന്നു അവന്‍ ചോദിച്ചു.

⁹ അവന്‍ അവനോടുനീ മൂന്നു വയസ്സുള്ള ഒരു പശുക്കിടാവിനെയും മൂന്നുവയസ്സുള്ള ഒരു കോലാടിനെയും മൂന്നു വയസ്സുള്ള ഒരു ആട്ടുകൊറ്റനെയും ഒരു കുറുപ്രാവിനെയും ഒരു പ്രാവിന്‍ കുഞ്ഞിനെയും കൊണ്ടുവരിക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

¹⁰ ഇവയെയൊക്കെയും അവന്‍ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു ഒത്തനടുവെ പിളര്‍ന്നു ഭാഗങ്ങളെ നേര്‍ക്കുംനേരെ വെച്ചു; പക്ഷികളെയോ അവന്‍ പിളര്‍ന്നില്ല.

¹¹ ഉടലുകളിന്മേല്‍ റാഞ്ചന്‍ പക്ഷികള്‍ഇറങ്ങി വന്നപ്പോള്‍ അബ്രാം അവയെ ആട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

¹² സൂര്യന്‍ അസ്തമിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ അബ്രാമിന്നു ഒരു ഗാഢനിദ്ര വന്നു; ഭീതിയും അന്ധതമസ്സും അവന്റെ മേല്‍ വീണു.

¹³ അപ്പോള്‍ അവന്‍ അബ്രാമിനോടുനിന്റെ സന്തതി സ്വന്തമല്ലാത്ത ദേശത്തു നാനൂറു സംവത്സരം പ്രവാസികളായിരുന്നു ആ ദേശക്കാരെ സേവിക്കും; അവര്‍ അവരെ പീഡിപ്പിക്കുമെന്നു നീ അറിഞ്ഞുകൊള്‍ക.

¹⁴ എന്നാല്‍ അവര്‍ സേവിക്കുന്ന ജാതിയെ ഞാന്‍ വിധിക്കും; അതിന്റെ ശേഷം അവര്‍ വളരെ സമ്പത്തോടുംകൂടെ പുറപ്പെട്ടുപോരും.

¹⁵ നീയോ സമാധാനത്തോടെ നിന്റെ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടു ചേരും; നല്ല വാര്‍ദ്ധക്യത്തില്‍ അടക്കപ്പെടും.

¹⁶ നാലാം തലമുറക്കാര്‍ ഇവിടേക്കു മടങ്ങിവരും; അമോര്‍യ്യരുടെ അക്രമം ഇതുവരെ തികഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ല എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

¹⁷ സൂര്യന്‍ അസ്തമിച്ചു ഇരുട്ടായശേഷം ഇതാ, പുകയുന്ന ഒരു തീച്ചൂള; ആ ഭാഗങ്ങളുടെ നടുവെ ജ്വലിക്കുന്ന ഒരു പന്തം കടന്നുപോയി.

¹⁸ അന്നു യഹോവ അബ്രാമിനോടു ഒരു നിയമം ചെയ്തുനിന്റെ സന്തതിക്കു ഞാന്‍ മിസ്രയീംനദി തുടങ്ങി ഫ്രാത്ത് നദിയായ മഹാനദിവരെയുള്ള ഈ ദേശത്തെ,

¹⁹ കേന്യര്‍, കെനിസ്യര്‍, കദ്മോന്യര്‍, ഹിത്യര്‍,

²⁰ പെറിസ്യര്‍, രെഫായീമ്യര്‍, അമോര്‍യ്യര്‍,

²¹ കനാന്യര്‍, ഗിര്‍ഗ്ഗശ്യര്‍, യെബൂസ്യര്‍ എന്നിവരുടെ ദേശത്തെ തന്നേ, തന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

¹ After these things the word of Yahweh came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Don't be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward."

² Abram said, "Lord Yahweh, what will you give me, since I go childless, and he who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?"

³ Abram said, "Behold, to me you have given no seed: and, behold, one born in my house is my heir."

⁴ Behold, the word of Yahweh came to him, saying, "This man will not be your heir, but he who will come forth out of your own body will be your heir."

⁵ Yahweh brought him outside, and said, "Look now toward the sky, and count the stars, if you are able to count them." He said to Abram, "So shall your seed be."

⁶ He believed in Yahweh; and he reckoned it to him for righteousness.

⁷ He said to him, "I am Yahweh who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give you this land to inherit it."

⁸ He said, "Lord Yahweh, how will I know that I will inherit it?"

⁹ He said to him, "Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon."

¹⁰ He brought him all of these, and divided them in the middle, and laid each half opposite the other; but he didn't divide the birds.

¹¹ The birds of prey came down on the carcasses, and Abram drove them away.

¹² When the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. Now terror and great darkness fell on him.

¹³ He said to Abram, "Know for sure that your seed will live as foreigners in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them. They will afflict them four hundred years.

¹⁴ I will also judge that nation, whom they will serve. Afterward they will come out with great wealth,

¹⁵ but you will go to your fathers in peace. You will be buried in a good old age.

¹⁶ In the fourth generation they will come here again, for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet full."

¹⁷ It came to pass that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold, a smoking furnace, and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.

¹⁸ In that day Yahweh made a covenant with Abram, saying, "To your seed I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates:

¹⁹ the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,

²⁰ the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,

²¹ the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites."
