71. Conjugial love makes man be love

Man is created to be love and consequently wisdom, since the Lord is Divine Love and Divine Wisdom. It is by creation that man is an image and likeness of the Lord,Genesis 1:26-27; and this could not happen without true conjugial love. By this man's all can be turned into love, for in marriage either may love from the heart the body too, and thus dispose the soul and consequently everything to the form of love. This is not otherwise possible; the inmost and the outermost there make one and bring about that form, which is the form of heaven.

2856. 'Abraham resumed to his servants' means becoming joined once again to the first rational. This is clear from the meaning of 'servants' or 'boys' as the first or merely human rational which was to serve the Divine Rational, dealt with above in 2782, 2792; and from the meaning of 'resuming to them' as being joined to, also dealt with above, in 2795. That while undergoing His very severe temptations the Lord separated the merely human rational from Himself is clear from the explanation at verse 5, in 2791-2793, 2795; and that following temptations He joined Himself once again to that rational is clear from what has been stated already in 2795, and from what is stated in this verse about Abraham returning to his servants.
