Because of their understanding of spiritual marriage, the people of the Most Ancient church perceived 'male and female' as two faculties in the spiritual self: 'male' refers to the understanding and 'female,' to the will. When these faculties act as one, they called it 'marriage.'
'Waters,' 'rivers,' and 'depths,' as in Psalm 78:15-16, signify truths from the Lord.
