1 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.

Commentary

 

Flame of a sword turning itself

  

The flame of a sword turning itself, as in Genesis 3:24, signifies self-love with its wild lusts and consequent perversions which carry man to things corporeal and worldly. This does however prevent the profanation of holy things.
