Da machte er sich von dannen und grub einen andern Brunnen, da zankten sie sich nicht über; darum hieß er ihn Rehoboth und sprach: Nun hat uns der HERR Raum gemacht und uns wachsen lassen im Lande.
3442. 'And he built an altar there' means that which is a meaningful sign of the Lord and a representative of Him. This is clear from the meaning of 'an altar' as the chief representative of the Lord, dealt with in 921, 2777, 2811.
