15 Ephraïm a beau être fertile au milieu de ses frères, Le vent d'orient viendra, le vent de l'Eternel s'élèvera du désert, Desséchera ses sources, tarira ses fontaines. On pillera le trésor de tous les objets précieux.

Commentary

Tread the wine-press

'To tread the wine-press,' as in Revelation 14:20, signifies exploring or examining the quality of works. In this case, they result from the doctrine of faith of the church. 'To tread the wine-press' signifies exploring, and the grape clusters signify works. All exploration or examination of church doctrine is made by the divine truth of the Word, which is not in that doctrine, but outside of it. This is why the wine press was trodden outside the city. 'To tread the wine-press' not only signifies exploring evil works, but also bearing with them in others, removing and casting them into hell, in Isaiah 63:1-3, Lamentations 1:15, and Revelation 19:15

1 Who is this who comes from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this who is glorious in his clothing, marching in the greatness of his strength? "It is I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save."

2 Why are you red in your clothing, and your garments like him who treads in the wine vat?

3 "I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the peoples there was no man with me: yes, I trod them in my anger, and trampled them in my wrath; and their lifeblood is sprinkled on my garments, and I have stained all my clothing.
