¹ 以撒叫了雅各來，給他祝福，並囑咐他說：你不要娶迦南的女子為妻。

² 你起身往巴旦亞蘭去，到你外祖彼土利家裡，在你母舅拉班的女兒中娶一女為妻。

³ 願全能的神賜福給你，使你生養眾多，成為多族，

⁴ 將應許亞伯拉罕的福賜給你和你的後裔，使你承受你所寄居的地為業，就是神賜給亞伯拉罕的地。

⁵ 以撒打發雅各走了，他就往巴旦亞蘭去，到亞蘭人彼土利的兒子拉班那裡。拉班是雅各、以掃的母舅。

⁶ 以掃見以撒已經給雅各祝福，而且打發他往巴旦亞蘭去，在那裡娶妻，並見祝福的時候囑咐他說：不要娶迦南的女子為妻，

⁷ 又見雅各聽從父母的話往巴旦亞蘭去了，

⁸ 以掃就曉得他父親以撒看不中迦南的女子，

⁹ 便往以實瑪利那裡去，在他二妻之外又娶了瑪哈拉為妻。他是亞伯拉罕兒子以實瑪利的女兒，尼拜約的妹子。

¹⁰ 雅各出了別是巴，向哈蘭走去；

¹¹ 到了一個地方，因為太陽落了，就在那裡住宿，便拾起那地方的一塊石頭枕在頭下，在那裡躺臥睡了，

¹² 夢見一個梯子立在地上，梯子的頭頂著天，有神的使者在梯子上，上去下來。

¹³ 耶和華站在梯子以上(或作站在他旁邊)，說：我是耶和華─你祖亞伯拉罕的神，也是以撒的神；我要將你現在所躺臥之地賜給你和你的後裔。

¹⁴ 你的後裔必像地上的塵沙那樣多，必向東西南北開展；地上萬族必因你和你的後裔得福。

¹⁵ 我也與你同在。你無論往那裡去，我必保佑你，領你歸回這地，總不離棄你，直到我成全了向你所應許的。

¹⁶ 雅各睡醒了，說：耶和華真在這裡，我竟不知道！

¹⁷ 就懼怕，說：這地方何等可畏！這不是別的，乃是神的殿，也是天的門。

¹⁸ 雅各清早起來，把所枕的石頭立作柱子，澆油在上面。

¹⁹ 他就給那地方起名叫伯特利(就是神殿的意思)；但那地方起先名叫路斯。

²⁰ 雅各許願說：神若與我同在，在我所行的路上保佑我，又給我食物吃，衣服穿，

²¹ 使我平平安安地回到我父親的家，我就必以耶和華為我的神。

²² 我所立為柱子的石頭也必作神的殿，凡你所賜給我的，我必將十分之一獻給你。

¹ Now Yahweh said to Abram, "Get out of your country, and from your relatives, and from your father's house, to the land that I will show you.

² I will make of you a great nation. I will bless you and make your name great. You will be a blessing.

³ I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you. All of the families of the earth will be blessed in you."

⁴ So Abram went, as Yahweh had spoken to him. Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed out of Haran.

⁵ Abram took Sarai his wife, Lot his brother's son, all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls whom they had gotten in Haran, and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan. Into the land of Canaan they came.

⁶ Abram passed through the land to the place of Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. The Canaanite was then in the land.

⁷ Yahweh appeared to Abram and said, "I will give this land to your seed." He built an altar there to Yahweh, who appeared to him.

⁸ He left from there to the mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to Yahweh and called on the name of Yahweh.

⁹ Abram traveled, going on still toward the South.

¹⁰ There was a famine in the land. Abram went down into Egypt to live as a foreigner there, for the famine was severe in the land.

¹¹ It happened, when he had come near to enter Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, "See now, I know that you are a beautiful woman to look at.

¹² It will happen, when the Egyptians will see you, that they will say, 'This is his wife.' They will kill me, but they will save you alive.

¹³ Please say that you are my sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that my soul may live because of you."

¹⁴ It happened that when Abram had come into Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful.

¹⁵ The princes of Pharaoh saw her, and praised her to Pharaoh; and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.

¹⁶ He dealt well with Abram for her sake. He had sheep, cattle, male donkeys, male servants, female servants, female donkeys, and camels.

¹⁷ Yahweh plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram's wife.

¹⁸ Pharaoh called Abram and said, "What is this that you have done to me? Why didn't you tell me that she was your wife?

¹⁹ Why did you say, 'She is my sister,' so that I took her to be my wife? Now therefore, see your wife, take her, and go your way."

²⁰ Pharaoh commanded men concerning him, and they brought him on the way with his wife and all that he had.
