1 Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he continually multiplieth lies and desolation; and they make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried into Egypt.

Commentary

 

Syria

  

In Genesis 25:20, this signifies people of the second Ancient Church regarding their knowledge of good and truth. (Apocalypse Explained 195[8])

In 2 Samuel 10:16, this signifies the knowledge of truth; but in general Syria signifies the knowledge of good. (Arcana Coelestia 3762, 4720)

'Syria,' as in Ezekiel 27:16, signifies the church regarding knowledges of truth and good.
