⁷ And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the striving of the children of Israel, and because they tempted Jehovah, saying, Is Jehovah among us, or not?

'To put' has reference to order, arrangement, application, and influx.

To generate, as in Isaiah 65:23, refers to things that are of faith. To labor refers to the things that are of love.
