31 And his servants said to him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, I pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: it may be he will save thy life.

Verse 31. Also it is the suggestion of the sensual life of the natural man, that spiritual truth from good, in the corrupted church, is compliant and yielding from merely natural kindness; and hence that an appearance of the submission of the will and the understanding of the natural man to the spiritual, would he the cause of a mutual agreement of the latter with the former.
