5 (I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to shew you the work of the LORD: for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount;) saying,

Verse 5. (The Word in the letter mediates between the Lord and those who are in external states, and shows them the will of the Lord as far as they are able to bear it, for the desires and thoughts of those who are in externals are not in conformity with the Divine Love, so that they cannot ascend into more interior states), and reveals as follows:—
