44 But they sought·​·the·​·summit to go·​·up to▵ the head of the mountain; but the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and Moses, departed not from among the camp.

Verse 44. But, nevertheless, the man in this external state is presumptuous, and elevates himself as if sure of victory; yet such have no interior conjunction with the Lord, and with Divine Truth; nor are they prepared for a real conflict.
