1166. Put (that is, Libya) in the Word symbolizes knowledge gleaned from the literal meaning that — yet again — is used for confirming false premises; and in addition it stands simply for the knowledge itself. This can be seen from the passages cited earlier in reference to Cush, which likewise symbolizes knowledge, but knowledge at a deeper level. The Word mentions Put in conjunction with Cush; look at the section concerning Cush [§1164] to see the places, as quoted from Jeremiah 46:9; Ezekiel 30:4-5, 6; Nahum 3:9; Daniel 11:43.
Ezekiel 30:4-5
4
And the sword shall come upon Egypt, and great pain shall be in Ethiopia, when the slain shall fall in Egypt, and they shall take away her multitude, and her foundations shall be broken down.
5
Ethiopia, and Libya, and Lydia, and all the mingled people, and Chub, and the men of the land that is in league, shall fall with them by the sword.
