הושע 2

1 והיה מספר בני־ישראל כחול הים אשר לא־ימד ולא יספר והיה במקום אשר־יאמר להם לא־עמי אתם יאמר להם בני אל־חי׃

2 ונקבצו בני־יהודה ובני־ישראל יחדו ושמו להם ראש אחד ועלו מן־הארץ כי גדול יום יזרעאל׃

3 אמרו לאחיכם עמי ולאחותיכם רחמה׃

4 ריבו באםכם ריבו כי־היא לא אשתי ואנכי לא אישה ותסר זנוניה מפניה ונאפופיה מבין שדיה׃

5 פן־אפשיטנה ערמה והצגתיה כיום הולדה ושמתיה כמדבר ושתה כארץ ציה והמתיה בצמא׃

6 ואת־בניה לא ארחם כי־בני זנונים המה׃

7 כי זנתה אםם הבישה הורתם כי אמרה אלכה אחרי מאהבי נתני לחמי ומימי צמרי ופשתי שמני ושקויי׃

8 לכן הנני־שך את־דרךך בסירים וגדרתי את־גדרה ונתיבותיה לא תמצא׃

9 ורדפה את־מאהביה ולא־תשיג אתם ובקשתם ולא תמצא ואמרה אלכה ואשובה אל־אישי הראשון כי טוב לי אז מעתה׃

10 והיא לא ידעה כי אנכי נתתי לה הדגן והתירוש והיצהר וכסף הרביתי לה וזהב עשו לבעל׃

11 לכן אשוב ולקחתי דגני בעתו ותירושי במועדו והצלתי צמרי ופשתי לכסות את־ערותה׃

12 ועתה אגלה את־נבלתה לעיני מאהביה ואיש לא־יצילנה מידי׃

13 והשבתי כל־משושה חגה חדשה ושבתה וכל מועדה׃

14 והשמתי גפנה ותאנתה אשר אמרה אתנה המה לי אשר נתנו־לי מאהבי ושמתים ליער ואכלתם חית השדה׃

15 ופקדתי עליה את־ימי הבעלים אשר תקטיר להם ותעד נזמה וחליתה ותלך אחרי מאהביה ואתי שכחה נאם־יהוה׃ ף

16 לכן הנה אנכי מפתיה והלכתיה המדבר ודברתי על־לבה׃

17 ונתתי לה את־כרמיה משם ואת־עמק עכור לפתח תקוה וענתה שמה כימי נעוריה וכיום עלתה מארץ־מצרים׃ ס

18 והיה ביום־ההוא נאם־יהוה תקראי אישי ולא־תקראי־לי עוד בעלי׃

19 והסרתי את־שמות הבעלים מפיה ולא־יזכרו עוד בשםם׃

20 וכרתי להם ברית ביום ההוא עם־חית השדה ועם־עוף השמים ורמש האדמה וקשת וחרב ומלחמה אשבור מן־הארץ והשכבתים לבטח׃

21 וארשתיך לי לעולם וארשתיך לי בצדק ובמשפט ובחסד וברחמים׃

22 וארשתיך לי באמונה וידעת את־יהוה׃ ס

23 והיה ביום ההוא אענה נאם־יהוה אענה את־השמים והם יענו את־הארץ׃

24 והארץ תענה את־הדגן ואת־התירוש ואת־היצהר והם יענו את־יזרעאל׃

25 וזרעתיה לי בארץ ורחמתי את־לא רחמה ואמרתי ללא־עמי עמי־אתה והוא יאמר אלהי׃ ף

3. We must briefly say here, too, what themes concerning the Lord are found in general and in particular throughout the Prophets of the Old Testament, from Isaiah to Malachi:

1. The Lord came into the world in the fullness of time, which is to say, when the Jews no longer knew Him, and when for that reason nothing of the church remained. And if the Lord had not then come into the world and revealed Himself, mankind would have perished in eternal death. He Himself says in John, “If you do not believe that I am [who I am], you will die in your sins” (John 8:24).

[2] 2. The Lord came into the world to execute a last judgment, and by doing so conquer the hells that were reigning at the time. This He did by combats, that is, by temptations or trials, which He permitted His humanity from His mother to undergo, and by continual victories in them then. If the hells had not been conquered, no one could have been saved.

[3] 3. The Lord came into the world to glorify His humanity, that is, to unite it to the Divinity that He had in Him from conception.

[4] 4. The Lord came into the world to establish a new church which would acknowledge Him as its Redeemer and Savior, so as to be redeemed and saved through love for and faith in Him.

[5] 5. At the same time He did so in order to set heaven in order, in order for it to be in harmony with the church.

[6] 6. His suffering of the cross was the last combat, or temptation or trial, by which He thoroughly conquered the hells and fully glorified His humanity.

That the Word deals with no other matters will be seen later in a short work on the Sacred Scripture.

Zechariah 14:20-21

20 In that day there will be on the bells of the horses, "HOLY TO YAHWEH;" and the pots in YAHWEH's house will be like the bowls before the altar.

21 Yes, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah will be holy to Yahweh of Armies; and all those who sacrifice will come and take of them, and cook in them. In that day there will no longer be a Canaanite in the house of Yahweh of Armies.
