1372. This becomes clear from the meaning of 'barren', dealt with elsewhere, for, as shown already, 'son' and 'daughter' mean truth and good, and in the contrary sense evil and falsity. Consequently 'barren' means that the evil and falsity of idolatrous worship were no longer reproducing themselves.
