2626. 'As God had spoken to him' means as He had willed. This becomes clear from the meaning of 'speaking' as thinking, dealt with in 2271, 2287, 2619; but here willing is meant for the reason that it was 'God' who is said to have spoken, and thinking in the case of the Divine is His willing.
