6034. 'And wept on his neck a long while' means mercy. This is clear from the meaning of 'weeping' as mercy, dealt with in 5480, 5873, 5927. The expression 'on his neck for a long while' is used because the beginning as well as the continuance of the joining together consists in mercy, the mercy of the Lord, who in the highest sense is 'Joseph'.
