Psalms 53

Study

1 To the victor, upon a machalath*; a maskil* of David.
2 The fool has said in his heart, there is no God.
They have corrupted,
and have made··abominable their perversity;
there is none who does good.

2 3 God looks··down from the heavens upon the sons of man
to see if there be one who has··intelligence,
who inquires··after God.

3 4 Everyone is turned··away; together they have become··filthy;
there is none who does good,
not even one.

4 5 Do not the workers of iniquity know,
eating··up my people, as if they eat··up bread?
God they call not.

5 6 There they dreaded with dread, where there was not dread;
for God has scattered the bones of him who encamps against thee.
Thou hast made· them ·ashamed, because God has rejected them.

6 7 Who shall give the salvation of Israel out··of Zion?
When God turns··back the captivity of His people,
Jacob shall rejoice,
Israel shall be··glad.
