¹ พระเจ้าตรัสพระวจนะทั้งสิ้นต่อไปนี้ว่า

² "เราคือพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเจ้า ผู้ได้นำเจ้าออกจากแผ่นดินอียิปต์คือจากเรือนทาส

³ อย่ามีพระอื่นใดนอกเหนือจากเรา

⁴ อย่าทำรูปเคารพสลักสำหรับตนเป็นรูปสิ่งหนึ่งสิ่งใด ซึ่งมีอยู่ในฟ้าเบื้องบน หรือซึ่งมีอยู่ที่แผ่นดินเบื้องล่าง หรือซึ่งมีอยู่ในน้ำใต้แผ่นดิน

⁵ อย่ากราบไหว้หรือปรนนิบัติรูปเหล่านั้น เพราะเราคือพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเจ้าเป็นพระเจ้าที่หวงแหน ให้โทษเพราะความชั่วช้าของบิดาตกทอดไปถึงลูกหลานของผู้ที่ชังเราจนถึงสามชั่วสี่ชั่วอายุคน

⁶ แต่แสดงความเมตตาต่อคนที่รักเรา และปฏิบัติตามบัญญัติของเรา จนถึงพันชั่วอายุคน

⁷ อย่าออกพระนามพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเจ้าอย่างไร้ประโยชน์ เพราะผู้ที่ออกพระนามพระองค์อย่างไร้ประโยชน์นั้น พระเยโฮวาห์จะทรงถือว่าไม่มีโทษก็หามิได้

⁸ จงระลึกถึงวันสะบาโต ถือเป็นวันบริสุทธิ์

⁹ จงทำการงานทั้งสิ้นของเจ้าหกวัน

¹⁰ แต่วันที่เจ็ดนั้นเป็นสะบาโตของพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเจ้า ในวันนั้นอย่ากระทำการงานใดๆ ไม่ว่าเจ้าเอง หรือบุตรชาย บุตรสาวของเจ้า หรือทาสทาสีของเจ้า หรือสัตว์ใช้งานของเจ้า หรือแขกที่อาศัยอยู่ในประตูเมืองของเจ้า

¹¹ เพราะในหกวันพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงสร้างฟ้า และแผ่นดิน ทะเล และสรรพสิ่งซึ่งมีอยู่ในที่เหล่านั้น แต่ในวันที่เจ็ดทรงพัก เพราะฉะนั้นพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงอวยพระพรวันสะบาโต และทรงตั้งวันนั้นไว้เป็นวันบริสุทธิ์

¹² จงให้เกียรติแก่บิดามารดาของเจ้า เพื่ออายุของเจ้าจะได้ยืนนานบนแผ่นดิน ซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเจ้าประทานให้แก่เจ้า

¹³ อย่ากระทำการฆาตกรรม

¹⁴ อย่าล่วงประเวณีผัวเมียเขา

¹⁵ อย่าลักทรัพย์

¹⁶ อย่าเป็นพยานเท็จใส่ร้ายเพื่อนบ้าน

¹⁷ อย่าโลภครัวเรือนของเพื่อนบ้าน อย่าโลภภรรยาของเพื่อนบ้าน หรือทาสทาสีของเขา หรือวัว ลาของเขา หรือสิ่งใดๆซึ่งเป็นของของเพื่อนบ้าน"

¹⁸ คนทั้งหลายเมื่อได้ยิน ได้เห็นฟ้าร้อง ฟ้าแลบ เสียงแตร และควันที่พลุ่งขึ้นจากภูเขาเช่นนั้น ต่างก็ยืนตัวสั่นอยู่แต่ไกล

¹⁹ เขาจึงกล่าวแก่โมเสสว่า "ท่านจงนำความมาเล่าเถิด พวกข้าพเจ้าจะฟัง แต่อย่าให้พระเจ้าตรัสกับพวกข้าพเจ้าเลย เกรงว่าข้าพเจ้าจะตาย"

²⁰ โมเสสจึงกล่าวแก่พลไพร่ว่า "อย่ากลัวเลย เพราะว่าพระเจ้าเสด็จมาเพื่อลองใจท่านทั้งหลาย เพื่อพวกท่านจะได้ยำเกรงพระองค์ และจะได้ไม่ทำบาป"

²¹ พลไพร่ยืนอยู่แต่ไกล แต่โมเสสเข้าไปใกล้ความมืดทึบที่พระเจ้าทรงสถิตอยู่นั้น

²² พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า "บอกชนชาติอิสราเอลดังนี้ว่า `เจ้าทั้งหลายได้เห็นแล้วว่า เราพูดกับพวกเจ้าจากท้องฟ้า

²³ เจ้าอย่าทำรูปพระด้วยเงินไว้สำหรับบูชาเทียมเท่ากับเรา หรือทำรูปพระด้วยทองคำสำหรับตัว

²⁴ จงใช้ดินก่อแท่นบูชาสำหรับเรา และบนแท่นนั้นจงใช้แกะและวัวของเจ้าเป็นเครื่องเผาบูชา และเป็นสันติบูชาแก่เรา ในทุกตำบลที่เราให้ระลึกถึงนามของเรา เราจะมาหาเจ้าและอวยพรเจ้า

²⁵ ถ้าจะก่อแท่นบูชาด้วยศิลาสำหรับเรา อย่าก่อด้วยศิลาที่ตกแต่งแล้ว เพราะถ้าเจ้าใช้เครื่องมือตกแต่งศิลานั้น เจ้าก็จะทำให้ศิลานั้นเป็นมลทิน

²⁶ และเจ้าอย่าเดินตามขั้นบันไดขึ้นไปยังแท่นบูชาของเรา เพื่อว่าการเปลือยเปล่าของเจ้าจะไม่ได้ถูกเปิดเผยเสียที่นั่น"

¹ It happened after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to him, "Abraham!" He said, "Here I am."

² He said, "Now take your son, your only son, whom you love, even Isaac, and go into the land of Moriah. Offer him there for a burnt offering on one of the mountains which I will tell you of."

³ Abraham rose early in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son. He split the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went to the place of which God had told him.

⁴ On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place far off.

⁵ Abraham said to his young men, "Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I will go yonder. We will worship, and come back to you."

⁶ Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. He took in his hand the fire and the knife. They both went together.

⁷ Isaac spoke to Abraham his father, and said, "My father?" He said, "Here I am, my son." He said, "Here is the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?"

⁸ Abraham said, "God will provide himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son." So they both went together.

⁹ They came to the place which God had told him of. Abraham built the altar there, and laid the wood in order, bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar, on the wood.

¹⁰ Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to kill his son.

¹¹ The angel of Yahweh called to him out of the sky, and said, "Abraham, Abraham!" He said, "Here I am."

¹² He said, "Don't lay your hand on the boy, neither do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me."

¹³ Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and saw that behind him was a ram caught in the thicket by his horns. Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering instead of his son.

¹⁴ Abraham called the name of that place Yahweh Will Provide. As it is said to this day, "On Yahweh's mountain, it will be provided."

¹⁵ The angel of Yahweh called to Abraham a second time out of the sky,

¹⁶ and said, "I have sworn by myself, says Yahweh, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son,

¹⁷ that I will bless you greatly, and I will multiply your seed greatly like the stars of the heavens, and like the sand which is on the seashore. Your seed will possess the gate of his enemies.

¹⁸ In your seed will all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice."

¹⁹ So Abraham returned to his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beersheba. Abraham lived at Beersheba.

²⁰ It happened after these things, that it was told Abraham, saying, "Behold, Milcah, she also has borne children to your brother Nahor:

²¹ Uz his firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel the father of Aram,

²² Chesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel."

²³ Bethuel became the father of Rebekah. These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham's brother.

²⁴ His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also bore Tebah, Gaham, Tahash, and Maacah.
