Jeremiah 44

The word that was to Jeremiah to all the Jews dwelling in the land of Egypt, who dwell at Migdol, and at Taḥpanḥes, and at Noph, and in the land of Pathros, saying,

Thus says Jehovah of Armies, the God of Israel; You have seen all the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, and upon all the cities of Judah; and, behold, this day they are a waste, and none dwells in them,

because of their evil which they have made to provoke Me, in that they went to burn··incense, and to serve other gods, whom they knew not, neither they, you, nor your fathers.

Howbeit I sent unto you all My servants the prophets, getting··up··early and sending them, saying, O, do not this abominable thing that I hate.

But they hearkened not and inclined not their ear to turn··back from their evil, so as not to burn··incense to other gods.

And My fury and My anger was poured··out, and was burned in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and desolate, as at this day.

And now thus says Jehovah, the God of Armies, the God of Israel; Why are you doing this great evil to your souls, to cut··off from you man and woman, babe and nursing infant, from the midst of Judah, so that* none are left remaining for you;

to provoke Me with the deeds of your hands, burning··incense to other gods in the land of Egypt, whither you go··in to sojourn, so··that you might cut· yourselves ·off, and so··that you might be for a reviling and for a reproach among all the nations of the earth?

Have you forgotten the evils of your fathers, and the evils of the kings of Judah, and the evils of their wives, and your own evils, and the evil of your wives, which they have done in the land of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem?

They are· not ·contrite even··to this day, and they have not feared, nor walked in My law, or in My statutes, that I put before you and before your fathers.

Therefore thus says Jehovah of Armies, the God of Israel; Behold, I will set My face against you for evil, and to cut off all Judah.

And I will take those who··are··left of Judah, who have set their faces to come into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they shall all be entirely consumed, and fall in the land of Egypt; they shall be entirely consumed by the sword and by the famine; they shall··die, from the smallest and even··to the greatest, by the sword and by the famine: and they shall be for an oath, for an astonishment, and for a reviling, and for a reproach.

For I will visit them that dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have visited Jerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence;

and there will not be one delivered or a survivor of those left of Judah, who come··into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, that they may return to the land of Judah, where they lift their soul to return to dwell; for they shall not return, except those who are delivered.

And all the men who knew that their wives had burned··incense to other gods, and all the women that stood by, a great assembly, and all the people who dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying,

As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of Jehovah, we will not hearken unto thee.

But doing we will do every word that goes··out from our own mouth, to burn··incense to the queen* of the heavens, and to pour··out to her poured··offerings, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem; and we were satisfied with bread, and were good, and we saw not evil.

But since we forbore to burn··incense to the queen of the heavens, and to pour··out poured··offerings to her, we have··want of all things, and have been entirely consumed by the sword and by the famine.

And when we burned··incense to the queen of the heavens, and poured··out poured··offerings to her, was it without our husbands that we made her cawanim* for her idol, and poured··out to her poured··offerings?

Then Jeremiah said unto all the people, to the men, and to the women, and to all the people which had answered him a word, saying,

The incense that you burned··for··incense in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, you, and your fathers, your kings and your princes, and the people of the land, did not Jehovah remember them, and she* came··up upon His heart?

And Jehovah is· not ·able to bear it any··more, on··account··of the evil of your actions, on··account··of the abominations which you have done, your land became a waste, and an astonishment, and a reviling, with none dwelling there, as at this day.

For the reason* that you have burned··incense, and that you have sinned against Jehovah, and have not obeyed the voice of Jehovah, nor walked in His law, nor in His statutes, nor in His testimonies; therefore this evil has befallen you, as at this day.

And Jeremiah said to all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of Jehovah, all Judah who are in the land of Egypt:

thus says Jehovah of Armies, the God of Israel, saying; You and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hands, saying, Doing we will do our vows that we have vowed, to burn··incense to the queen of the heavens, and to pour··out poured··offerings to her; raising you will raise your vows, and doing do your vows.

Therefore hear ye the word of Jehovah, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have promised by My great name, says Jehovah, that My name shall no more be called in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord Jehovih* is alive.

Behold, I am watching over them for evil, and not for good; and all the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt shall be entirely consumed by the sword and by the famine, until they are all··consumed.

But mortals in number* who escape the sword shall return from the land of Egypt to the land of Judah; and all those who··are··left of Judah, who came to the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know that My words shall rise··up from Me and from them.

And this shall be a sign unto you, says Jehovah, that I will visit you in this place, so··that you may know that My words arising shall arise against you for evil;

thus says Jehovah; Behold, I will give Pharaoh-chophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of them that seek his soul; as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, his enemy, and that sought his soul.
