Arcana Coelestia#4441
4441. 'And Jacob kept silent until they came' means counsel taken with the truths of faith which were known to him and his descendants. This is clear from the meaning of 'keeping silent' as thinking and keeping one's own counsel; and from the meaning of 'until they (his sons) came' as counsel taken by the truths of faith which belonged to him and his descendants - 'sons' meaning truths, see 489, 491, 533, 1147, 2623, 3373, 4257. Since the counsel was to be taken with the sons, and so with the truths meant by 'Jacob's sons', it was therefore a counsel taken with the truths known to him and his descendants.
Arcana Coelestia#4507
4507. 'And whatever was in the city, and whatever was in the field they took' means every truth and good of the Church. This is clear from the meaning of 'the city' as doctrine, and so the truth of the Church, dealt with in 402, 2268, 2449, 2712, 2943, 3216, 4492, 4493, and from the meaning of 'the field' as the Church in regard to good, and so as the good of the Church, dealt with in 2971, 3310, 3766, 4440, 4443. Consequently 'whatever was in the city, and whatever was in the field' means every truth and good of the Church.
