'To hearken,' as mentioned in Genesis 30:22, signifies providence. 'To hearken to father and mother,' as mentioned in Genesis 28:7, signifies obedience from affection.

3683. 'You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan' means that it had not to be joined to affections for falsity and evil. This is clear from the meaning of 'taking a wife' as being brought into association with, or joined to, and from the meaning of 'the daughters of Canaan' as affections for falsity and evil, also dealt with above in 3662.
