¹ เมื่ออายุอับรามได้เก้าสิบเก้าปี พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงประกฎแก่อับรามและตรัสแก่ท่านว่า "เราเป็นพระเจ้า ผู้ทรงมหิทธิฤทธิ์ จงดำเนินอยู่ต่อหน้าเราและเจ้าจงเป็นคนดีรอบคอบ

² เราจะทำพันธสัญญาของเราระหว่างเรากับเจ้า และจะให้เจ้าทวีมากขึ้น"

³ อับรามก็ซบหน้าลงถึงดินและพระเจ้าทรงมีพระราชปฏิสันถารกับท่านว่า

⁴ "สำหรับเรา ดูเถิด นี่เป็นพันธสัญญาของเรากับเจ้า และเจ้าจะเป็นบิดาของประชาชาติมากมาย

⁵ ชื่อของเจ้าจะไม่เรียกว่า อับราม อีกต่อไป แต่เจ้าจะมีชื่อว่า อับราฮัม เพราะเราจะกระทำให้เจ้าเป็นบิดาของประชาชาติมากมาย

⁶ เราจะกระทำให้เจ้ามีลูกดกทวีมากขึ้น เราจะกระทำให้เจ้าเป็นชนหลายชาติ กษัตริย์หลายองค์จะเกิดมาจากเจ้า

⁷ เราจะตั้งพันธสัญญาของเราระหว่างเรากับเจ้าและเชื้อสายของเจ้าที่มาภายหลังเจ้าตลอดชั่วอายุของเขาให้เป็นพันธสัญญานิรันดร์ เป็นพระเจ้าองค์เดียวแก่เจ้าและเชื้อสายของเจ้าที่มาภายหลังเจ้า

⁸ เราจะให้แผ่นดินที่เจ้าอาศัยอยู่เป็นคนต่างด้าวนี้ คือบรรดาแผ่นดินคานาอันแก่เจ้าและเชื้อสายของเจ้าที่มาภายหลังเจ้าให้เป็นกรรมสิทธิ์นิรันดร์ และเราจะเป็นพระเจ้าของพวกเขา"

⁹ พระเจ้าตรัสแก่อับราฮัมว่า "เหตุฉะนั้นเจ้าและเชื้อสายของเจ้าที่มาภายหลังเจ้าตลอดชั่วอายุของพวกเขาจะรักษาพันธสัญญาของเรา

¹⁰ นี่เป็นพันธสัญญาของเราซึ่งเจ้าจะรักษาระหว่างเรากับเจ้าและเชื้อสายของเจ้าที่มาภายหลังเจ้า คือเด็กผู้ชายทุกคนในท่ามกลางพวกเจ้าจะเข้าสุหนัต

¹¹ เจ้าจะเข้าสุหนัตตัดหนังหุ้มปลายองคชาตของเจ้า และมันจะเป็นหมายสำคัญแห่งพันธสัญญาระหว่างเรากับเจ้า

¹² ผู้ชายที่มีอายุแปดวันจะเข้าสุหนัตในท่ามกลางพวกเจ้า เด็กผู้ชายทุกคนตลอดชั่วอายุของพวกเจ้า ผู้ชายที่เกิดในบ้านหรือเอาเงินซื้อมาจากคนต่างด้าวใดๆซึ่งมิใช่เชื้อสายของเจ้า

¹³ ผู้ชายที่เกิดในบ้านของเจ้าและผู้ชายที่เอาเงินซื้อมาจำเป็นต้องเข้าสุหนัต และพันธสัญญาของเราจะอยู่ที่เนื้อของเจ้า เป็นพันธสัญญานิรันดร์

¹⁴ เด็กผู้ชายที่มิได้เข้าสุหนัต คือผู้ที่มิได้เข้าสุหนัตตัดหนังหุ้มปลายองคชาตของเขา ชีวิตนั้นจะถูกตัดขาดจากชนชาติของเขา เขาได้ละเมิดพันธสัญญาของเรา"

¹⁵ และพระเจ้าตรัสแก่อับราฮัมว่า "สำหรับซารายภรรยาของเจ้า เจ้าจะไม่เรียกชื่อนางว่า ซาราย แต่จะเรียกชื่อนางว่า ซาราห์

¹⁶ เราจะอวยพรแก่นางและให้บุตรชายคนหนึ่งแก่เจ้ากับนางด้วย ใช่ เราจะอวยพรนาง นางจะเป็นมารดาของชนหลายชาติ กษัตริย์ของชนหลายชาติจะมาจากนาง"

¹⁷ ดังนั้นอับราฮัมจึงซบหน้าลงหัวเราะคิดในใจของท่านว่า "ชายผู้มีอายุหนึ่งร้อยปีจะให้กำเนิดบุตรได้หรือ ซาราห์ผู้มีอายุได้เก้าสิบปีแล้วจะคลอดบุตรหรือ"

¹⁸ อับราฮัมทูลพระเจ้าว่า "โอ ขอให้อิชมาเอลมีชีวิตอยู่ต่อพระพักตร์ของพระองค์"

¹⁹ พระเจ้าตรัสว่า "ซาราห์ภรรยาของเจ้าจะคลอดบุตรชายคนหนึ่งแก่เจ้าเป็นแน่ เจ้าจะเรียกชื่อของเขาว่า อิสอัค และเราจะตั้งพันธสัญญาของเรากับเขาและกับเชื้อสายของเขาที่มาภายหลังเขาให้เป็นพันธสัญญานิรันดร์

²⁰ สำหรับอิชมาเอลนั้นเราได้ฟังเจ้าแล้ว ดูเถิด เราได้อวยพรเขาและจะกระทำให้เขามีลูกดกทวีมากขึ้นอุดมบริบูรณ์อย่างยิ่ง เขาจะให้กำเนิดเจ้านายสิบสององค์และเราจะกระทำให้เขาเป็นชนชาติใหญ่ชนชาติหนึ่ง

²¹ แต่พันธสัญญาของเรา เราจะตั้งไว้กับอิสอัคซึ่งซาราห์จะคลอดให้แก่เจ้าปีหน้าในเวลานี้"

²² พระองค์มีพระราชปฏิสันถารกับท่านเสร็จแล้ว พระเจ้าก็เสด็จขึ้นไปจากอับราฮัม

²³ อับราฮัมจึงเอาอิชมาเอลบุตรชายของท่าน บรรดาคนทั้งปวงที่เกิดในบ้านของท่านและบรรดาคนทั้งปวงที่ได้ซื้อมาด้วยเงินของท่าน คือผู้ชายทุกคนท่ามกลางคนที่อยู่ในบ้านของอับราฮัม ให้เข้าสุหนัตตัดหนังหุ้มปลายองคชาตของพวกเขาในวันนั้นตามที่พระเจ้าตรัสไว้แก่ท่าน

²⁴ เมื่อท่านเข้าสุหนัตตัดหนังหุ้มปลายองคชาตของท่าน อับราฮัมมีอายุเก้าสิบเก้าปี

²⁵ และอิชมาเอลบุตรชายของท่านมีอายุสิบสามปีเมื่อเขาเข้าสุหนัตตัดหนังหุ้มปลายองคชาตของเขา

²⁶ อับราฮัมและอิชมาเอลบุตรชายของท่านเข้าสุหนัตในวันเดียวกันนั้น

²⁷ บรรดาผู้ชายในบ้านของท่าน ทั้งที่เกิดในบ้านของท่านและซื้อมาด้วยเงินจากคนต่างด้าวก็เข้าสุหนัตพร้อมกับท่าน

¹ God remembered Noah, all the animals, and all the livestock that were with him in the ship; and God made a wind to pass over the earth. The waters subsided.

² The deep's fountains and the sky's windows were also stopped, and the rain from the sky was restrained.

³ The waters receded from the earth continually. After the end of one hundred fifty days the waters decreased.

⁴ The ship rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on Ararat's mountains.

⁵ The waters receded continually until the tenth month. In the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains were seen.

⁶ It happened at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ship which he had made,

⁷ and he sent forth a raven. It went back and forth, until the waters were dried up from the earth.

⁸ He sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from the surface of the ground,

⁹ but the dove found no place to rest her foot, and she returned to him into the ship; for the waters were on the surface of the whole earth. He put forth his hand, and took her, and brought her to him into the ship.

¹⁰ He stayed yet another seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ship.

¹¹ The dove came back to him at evening, and, behold, in her mouth was an olive leaf plucked off. So Noah knew that the waters were abated from the earth.

¹² He stayed yet another seven days, and sent forth the dove; and she didn't return to him any more.

¹³ It happened in the six hundred first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from the earth. Noah removed the covering of the ship, and looked. He saw that the surface of the ground was dried.

¹⁴ In the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth was dry.

¹⁵ God spoke to Noah, saying,

¹⁶ "Go out of the ship, you, and your wife, and your sons, and your sons' wives with you.

¹⁷ Bring forth with you every living thing that is with you of all flesh, including birds, livestock, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply on the earth."

¹⁸ Noah went forth, with his sons, his wife, and his sons' wives with him.

¹⁹ Every animal, every creeping thing, and every bird, whatever moves on the earth, after their families, went out of the ship.

²⁰ Noah built an altar to Yahweh, and took of every clean animal, and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

²¹ Yahweh smelled the pleasant aroma. Yahweh said in his heart, "I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake, because the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I ever again strike everything living, as I have done.

²² While the earth remains, seed time and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease."
