1 A ti, sine čovječji, protuži tužaljkom za knezovima izraelskim.

2 Reci: Što bijaše tvoja mati? Lavica među lavovima, ležala je među lavićima, hraneći mladunčad svoju.

3 I othrani jedno mlado, koje lavom posta. Naučiv se plijen derati, stade ljude proždirati!

4 Narodi se protiv njega udružiše, lav upade u jamu njihovu, na lancu ga odvedoše u zemlju egipatsku.

5 A kad mati vidje da uzalud čeka i da joj nada propade, uze drugo mlado i od njega lava učini.

6 Živeć' tako među lavovima, i on lavom posta. Naučiv se plijen derati, stade ljude proždirati,

7 utvrde im rušiti, pustošiti gradove. Uzdrhta zemlja i sve na njoj od silne rike njegove.

8 Ali se ljudi iz okolnih mjesta protiv njega podigoše i zamke mu postaviše; i lav se uhvati u jamu njihovu.

9 Okovana u kavez ga zatvoriše, odvedoše kralju babilonskom, ondje ga u kulu zatočiše, da mu se više ne čuje rika po gorama izraelskim.

10 Mati tvoja bješe kao loza pokraj vode zasađena, rodna i granata od obilja vode!

11 Imala je jaku granu za palicu vladalačku: uzdiže se nad krošnju, naočita visinom, mnoštvom grančica.

12 Al' u gnjevu bješe iščupana i na zemlju bačena. Istočnjak joj rod sasuši: polomi se i uvenu jaka grana njezina i vatra je svu proguta.

13 U pustinju bje presađena, u zemlju suhu, bezvodnu.

14 Al' liznu oganj iz pruta njezina i spali joj grane i plodove! I nema više na njoj grane jake za palicu vladalačku." To je, evo tužaljka, i ostat će tužaljka.

303. Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof? That this signifies whether any one there is of such a quality as to know and perceive the states of the life of all, is evident from the signification of, Who is worthy? as denoting, who has merit and justice, and who has omniscience, thus whether there are any of such a quality. That by worthy, when said of the Lord, merit and justice are signified; these belong to Him alone, as may be seen above (n. 293). And that omniscience is signified is evident from what follows, where it is said, that the Lamb took the book out of the right hand of Him that sat upon the throne, and opened it; for by the right hand is signified omniscience and omnipotence, as may be seen above (n. 297); from the signification of the book, as denoting the state of the life of all in general and in particular (concerning which see just above, n. 299); and from the signification of opening it and loosing the seals thereof, as denoting to know and perceive. For when a book signifies the states of the life of all, then to open and to loose the seals signifies to know and perceive the same; for to know and perceive are said of the state of the life, but to open and loose the seals are said of a book. Thus the words, in the internal sense, are accommodated to the things signified by the words in the sense of the letter, for they correspond; therefore, to open signifies to know, and to loose the seals signifies to perceive what is entirely hidden from others (as above, n. 300).

660. That 'a flood' means a deluge of evil and falsity is clear from what has been stated already about the descendants of the Most Ancient Church being possessed with filthy desires and immersing doctrinal matters concerning faith in them. This immersing led to false persuasions within them which annihilated all truth and good and simultaneously closed off the road for remnants and so made it impossible for them to do their work. It was inevitable therefore that these men would destroy themselves. When the road for remnants has been closed off a person is no longer human, for he can no longer be protected by angels but is wholly and completely possessed by evil spirits who long and desire to do nothing else but annihilate man. It was this that led to the death of the people who existed before the Flood, a death described by 'a flood' or utter deluge. Indeed the influx of delusions and desires from evil spirits is not unlike a flood. Consequently in various places in the Word that influx is called a flood or a deluge, as in the Lord's Divine mercy will be seen in the preliminary remarks to the next chapter. 1
