Scriptural Confirmations # 60

/ 101

60. 32. (Let destruction come upon him before he knows, and into that devastation let him fall. Lord, rescue my soul from the devastators (Psalms 35:8, 17).)

A day of famine and a time of evil (Psalms 37:19).

(I understood their end, thou hast cast them down to wasteness, and they are brought into wasteness suddenly, they are consummated (Psalms 73:17-19).)

For a thousand years in Thy sight are as yesterday when it is past (Psalms 90:4).

Thou hast laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Thy hands. They shall perish, but Thou shalt endure, and all shall grow old like a garment; as a garment shalt Thou change them and they shall be changed: but Thou art the same, Thy years are not consumed; the son of Thy servants shall dwell, and their seed shall be established before Thee (Psalms 102:25-28).

Our feet were standing within thy gates, O Jerusalem. Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together. There are set thrones for judgment. Seek the peace of Jerusalem, let them be quiet that love thee (Psalms 122:1-9).

A song of Jehovah. If I forget thee, Jerusalem, let my right hand forget. Let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth, if I remember thee not, if I do not set Jerusalem above the beginning of my joy (Psalms 137:5-6).

(A full consummation was made, that is, was completed, when the Lord exclaimed upon the cross, It is finished (John 19:28-30; Psalms 35:7-8, 17).)

Down

Moses descends from Mount Sinai with the Ten Commandments, by Ferdinand Bol

Down" is used many different ways, and its spiritual meaning in the Bible is highly dependent on context. Phrases like "bowing down," "lying down" and "falling down" are defined primarily by "bowing," "lying" and "falling"; there is also a great difference between a person descending, the Lord sending fire from heaven and someone handling an object, to offer a few examples. In a very general sense, though, "down" indicates a lowering from more internal spiritual states to more external ones. That's why the journey is described as going "down" to Egypt from Canaan, and people from all quarters go "up" to Jerusalem. It's also why the Lord comes "down" to us, which generally indicates a state of judgment.
