Sand upon the sea-shore

'Sand of the sea,' as in Revelation 8:1, signifies a spiritual-natural state, like the state of people in the first or extreme heaven. 'Sand upon the sea-shore,' as in Genesis 22, signifies a multitude of scientific ideas. 'Sea' denotes scientific ideas in general or their gathering together, and 'sand' denotes scientific ideas in particular. Scientific ideas are compared to 'sand' because the little stones that are sand, in the internal sense, are scientific ideas.
