1 Ja Mooses läks ning rääkis kõik need sõnad kogu Iisraelile.

2 Ja ta ütles neile: 'Mina olen nüüd sada kakskümmend aastat vana, ma ei jaksa enam minna ega tulla; ja Issand on mulle öelnud: 'Sina ei lähe üle Jordani.'

3 Issand, su Jumal, läheb ise üle su ees, tema hävitab need rahvad su eest ja sina vallutad nad. Joosua, tema läheb üle su ees, nõnda nagu Issand on öelnud.

4 Ja Issand talitab nendega, nagu ta talitas Siihoni ja Oogiga, emorlaste kuningatega, ja nende maaga, kelle ta hävitas.

5 Issand annab nad teie kätte; talitage nendega kogu seaduse kohaselt, mille ma teile olen andnud!

6 Olge vahvad ja tugevad, ärge kartke ja ärge tundke hirmu nende ees, sest Issand, su Jumal, käib ise koos sinuga, tema ei lahku sinust ega jäta sind maha!'

7 Ja Mooses kutsus Joosua ning ütles temale kogu Iisraeli silma ees: 'Ole vahva ja tugev, sest sina pead viima selle rahva maale, mille Issand vandega nende vanemaile on tõotanud neile anda, ja sina pead andma selle neile pärisosaks!

8 Ja Issand ise käib su ees, tema on sinuga, tema ei lahku sinust ega jäta sind maha. Ära karda ega kohku!'

9 Ja Mooses pani kirja selle Seaduse ning andis preestritele, Leevi poegadele, kes kandsid seaduselaegast, ja kõigile Iisraeli vanemaile.

10 Ja Mooses käskis neid, öeldes: 'Igal seitsmendal aastal, vabastusaastal, seatud ajal, lehtmajadepühal,

11 kui kogu Iisrael tuleb, et ilmuda Issanda, su Jumala ette paika, mille ta on valinud, loe seda Seadust kogu Iisraeli ees nende kuuldes!

12 Kogu kokku rahvas, mehed ja naised ja lapsed, ka võõrad, kes on su väravais, et nad kuuleksid ja õpiksid ning kardaksid Issandat, teie Jumalat, ja teeksid hoolsasti selle Seaduse kõigi sõnade järgi,

13 ja et nende lapsed, kes seda veel ei tunne, kuuleksid ja õpiksid kartma Issandat, teie Jumalat, kogu aja, mis te elate maal, kuhu te lähete üle Jordani, et seda pärida.'

14 Ja Issand ütles Moosesele: 'Vaata, see aeg ligineb, mil sa pead surema. Kutsu Joosua ja astuge kogudusetelki, siis ma annan temale kohustuse!' Siis Mooses läks koos Joosuaga, ja nad astusid kogudusetelki.

15 Ja Issand ilmutas ennast telgis pilvesambas, ja pilvesammas seisis telgi ukse kohal.

16 Ja Issand ütles Moosesele: 'Vaata, sa lähed magama oma vanemate juurde, aga see rahvas võtab kätte ja käib hoorates võõraste jumalate järel sellel maal, kuhu ta nüüd jõuab; ta jätab mind maha ja tühistab mu lepingu, mille ma temaga olen teinud.

17 Sel ajal süttib mu viha põlema tema vastu ja ma jätan ta maha ning peidan oma palge tema eest ja teda hävitatakse ning teda tabab palju õnnetusi ja ahastusi. Sel ajal ta ütleb: 'Eks ole need õnnetused mind tabanud selle pärast, et mu Jumal ei ole minu keskel?'

18 Aga sel ajal peidan ma oma palge täiesti kõige selle kurja pärast, mis ta on teinud, pöördudes teiste jumalate poole.

19 Ja nüüd kirjutage endile üles see laul! Õpeta seda Iisraeli lastele ja pane see neile suhu, et see laul oleks mulle tunnistajaks Iisraeli laste vastu!

20 Sest ma tahan neid viia sellele maale, mille ma nende vanemaile vandega tõotasin, mis piima ja mett voolab. Nad söövad, nende kõhud saavad täis ja nad rasvuvad, aga nad pöörduvad teiste jumalate poole ja teenivad neid, nad põlgavad mind ja tühistavad minu lepingu.

21 Kui neid tabavad suured õnnetused ja ahastused, siis kõneleb see laul tunnistajana nende vastu, sest see ei tohi ununeda nende järglaste suust, sellepärast et ma tunnen nende mõtteid, mis nad nüüd mõlgutavad, enne kui ma viin nad maale, mille ma vandega olen tõotanud neile anda.'

22 Ja Mooses kirjutas sel päeval üles selle laulu ning õpetas seda Iisraeli lastele.

23 Ja Issand andis käsu Joosuale, Nuuni pojale, ning ütles: 'Ole vahva ja tugev, sest sina pead viima Iisraeli lapsed sellele maale, mille ma vandega olen tõotanud neile anda, ja mina olen sinuga!'

24 Ja kui Mooses oli raamatusse täielikult üles kirjutanud selle Seaduse sõnad algusest lõpuni,

25 siis käskis Mooses leviite, kes kandsid seaduselaegast, öeldes:

26 'Võtke see Seaduse raamat ja pange ta Issanda, oma Jumala seaduselaeka kõrvale, et see oleks seal tunnistajaks sinu vastu,

27 sest ma tunnen sinu vastupanu ja kangekaelsust. Vaata nüüd, mil ma veel elan koos teiega, olete te olnud Issandale vastupanijad, saati siis pärast minu surma!

28 Koguge minu juurde kõik oma suguharude vanemad ja ülevaatajad, siis ma räägin nende kuuldes need sõnad ja võtan tunnistajaiks nende vastu taeva ja maa!

29 Sest ma tean, et te pärast minu surma käitute väga kõlvatult ja lahkute teelt, mille ma teile olen andnud. Aga tulevasil päevil tabab teid õnnetus, kui te teete, mis kuri on Issanda silmis, pahandades teda oma kätetööga.'

30 Ja Mooses rääkis kogu Iisraeli koguduse kuuldes selle laulu sõnad algusest lõpuni:

527. "And those who fear Your name, small and great." This symbolizes people who love things having to do with the Lord, in a lesser or greater degree.

To fear the Lord's name means, symbolically, to love things having to do with the Lord. To fear means, symbolically, to love, and the Lord's name symbolizes everything by which He is worshiped (no. 81). People small and great symbolize people who fear the Lord in a lesser or greater degree.

To fear here means, symbolically, to love because everyone who loves another is afraid of injuring the one he loves. There is no genuine love without that fear. Accordingly, someone who loves the Lord is afraid of doing evil, because evils go counter to the Lord, as they go counter to His Divine laws in the Word - the Word that originates from the Lord and thus embodies Him. Indeed, they go counter to His Divine essence, which is to will the salvation of all. For He is a savior. But He cannot save a person unless the person lives in accordance with the Lord's laws and commandments. What is more, someone who loves evils also desires to injure the Lord, indeed to crucify Him. This desire is inmostly present in every evil, even in people who in the world acknowledge Him with the lips. The reality of this is something unknown to people, but well known to angels.

[2] That to fear God means, symbolically, to love things having to do with God, by doing them and refusing to do things which go counter to Him, is apparent from the following passages:

...what does Jehovah your God require of you, but to fear Jehovah your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him... (Deuteronomy 10:12)

You shall walk after Jehovah your God and fear Him, that you may keep His commandments... (Deuteronomy 13:4)

You shall fear Jehovah your God; you shall serve Him, and to Him you shall hold fast... (Deuteronomy 10:20. Cf. 6:2, 6:13-14, 6:24; 8:6; 17:19; 28:58; 31:12)

Who will grant them to have a heart to fear Me and keep... My commandments... (Deuteronomy 5:29)

Teach me Your way, O Jehovah...; unite my heart to a fear of Your name. (Psalms 86:11)

Blessed is he who fears Jehovah, who walks in His ways. (Psalms 128:1, cf. 112:1, Jeremiah 44:10)

If I am a Father, where is My honor? If I am Lord, where is the fear of Me? (Malachi 1:6, cf. 2:5, Isaiah 11:2-3)

I will give them one heart, and one way, to fear Me... and I will put fear of Me in their hearts so that they do not turn away from Me. (Jeremiah 32:39-40)

The beginning of wisdom is fear of Jehovah... (Psalms 111:10)

And so on elsewhere, as in Isaiah 8:13; 25:3; 29:13; 50:10; Jeremiah 33:9; Psalms 22:23; 33:8, 18; 34:7, 9; 55:19; 115:11, 13; 147:11; Revelation 14:7; Luke 1:50.

A fear of God in evil people, on the other hand, is not love, but a fear of hell.

81. "'And have labored for My name's sake and have not become weary.'" This symbolizes their effort and work in acquiring for themselves and also teaching the constituents of religion and its accompanying doctrine.

The name of Jehovah or the Lord in the Word does not mean His name, but everything by which He is worshiped. And because He is worshiped in accordance with doctrine in the church, His name means everything pertaining to doctrine, and in the broadest sense, everything pertaining to religion.

These are the meanings of the name of Jehovah, and the reason is that in heaven the only names found are ones that reflect a person's character, and God's character includes everything by which He is worshiped.

One who is not aware of this symbolic meaning of a name in the Word can understand it only as a name; and in this alone there is nothing pertaining to worship and religion.

[2] Someone who keeps in mind, therefore, this symbolic meaning of "the name of Jehovah" when it is mentioned in the Word, will of himself understand its symbolic meaning in the following passages:

In that day you will say: "Confess to Jehovah, call upon His name." (Isaiah 12:4)

...O Jehovah, we have waited for You; the desire of our soul is for Your name... ...by You we make mention of Your name. (Isaiah 26:8, 13)

From the rising of the sun My name shall be called on. (Isaiah 41:25)

...from the rising of the sun, even to its going down, My name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered to My name...; for My name shall be great among the nations... ...you profane (My name) when you say, "The table of Jehovah is defiled...." But you sneer at (My name)..., when you bring the stolen, the lame, and the sick. (Malachi 1:11-13)

...all peoples walk in the name of their god, but we will walk in the name of Jehovah our God... (Micah 4:5)

Everyone who is called by My name, for My glory I have created him, I have formed him... (Isaiah 43:7)

You shall not take the name of Jehovah your God in vain; ...Jehovah will not hold him innocent who takes His name in vain. (Deuteronomy 5:11)

They were to worship Jehovah in one place, where He should put His name (Deuteronomy 12:5, 11, 13-14, 18; 16:2, 6, 11, 15-16). And so on in many other places. Who does not see that the name in them does not mean simply a name?

[3] It is the same with the name of the Lord in the New Testament, as in the following places:

(Jesus said,) "You will be hated by all because of My name. (Matthew 10:22; cf. 24:9-10)

...where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them. (Matthew 18:20)

Everyone who has left houses, brothers, sisters... for My name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and... eternal life. (Matthew 19:29)

As many as received Him, to them He gave the power to become children of God, to those who believe in His name. (John 1:12)

...many believed in His name... (John 2:23)

He who does not believe is judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (John 3:17-18)

...believing (they will) have life in His name. (John 20:31)

Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! (Matthew 21:9; 23:39; Luke 13:35, cf. 19:38)

[4] In respect to His humanity the Lord is the name of the Father, as witness the following:

Father, glorify Your name. (John 12:28)

Hallowed be Your name (and) Your kingdom come. (Matthew 6:9-10)

"Name" in the case of other people refers to a quality of worship, as in the following:

(A shepherd) calls his own sheep by (their) name... (John 10:3)

You have a few names in Sardis... (Revelation 3:4)

I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem..., and My new name. (Revelation 3:12)

And the like elsewhere.

It can be seen from this now that the statement, "You have labored for My name's sake and have not become weary," symbolizes their effort and work in acquiring for themselves and also teaching the constituents of religion and its accompanying doctrine.
