And it came to pass, whenever the stronger cattle conceived, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods.
3989. 'He said, What shall I give you?' means knowledge. This becomes clear from its being an anxious desire and a request to know what he wanted for wages and how much.
'And Jacob said' means a reply. This is clear without explanation.
