Like "say," the word "speak" refers to thoughts and feelings moving from our more internal spiritual levels to our more external ones -- and ultimately from the Lord, who is in a sense the most internal spiritual level of all. This is generally called "influx" and "perception" in the Writings, meaning they are thoughts and feelings that flow in in a complete way from the Lord, rather than being things we have to think about and figure out. On a number of occasions "speak" and "say" are used together; in these cases "speak" refers more to intellectual instruction in matters of thought and "say" refers more to feelings and affections that flow in directly.

3910. „Und er sprach: Bin ich an Gottes Statt?“, 1 Mose 30:2, bedeutet, es sei ihm unmöglich.

Dies erhellt aus der Bedeutung von nicht an Gottes Statt sein, so-fern es etwas Unmögliches bezeichnet; denn Gott wird im Wort gesagt vom Können oder der Macht, Jehovah aber vom Sein oder Wesen, man sehe Nr. 300. Daher kommt es, daß Gott gesagt wird, wenn die Rede ist vom Wahren, und Jehovah, wenn vom Guten: Nr: 2769, 2807, 2822; denn vom Wahren wird das Können ausgesagt, während vom Guten das Sein; denn durch das Wahre hat das Gute Macht; durch das Wahre nämlich bewirkt das Gute alles, was ins Dasein kommt.

Hieraus kann erhellen, daß durch die Worte: „bin ich an Gottes Statt“, im inneren Sinn bezeichnet wird, es sei ihm unmöglich.
