47 For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life; and through this thing you shall prolong your days on the ground, whither you cross·​·over Jordan to possess it.

Verse 47. It is seen that these truths are not vain things that may be neglected; but that they are the very life itself of the soul; and by means of them holy states are acquired by the spiritual man, which will be useful to him in the next world, and when he passes from external to internal things.
