Jesus represents the Lord's divine goodness, his desire to bring good things to us and to being us into a state of happiness. The disciples represent those who desire to be good people and seek knowledge about how to be good. "Call" represents a desire for conjunction, and a "marriage" represents uniting what is good with what is true in the church.

This verse, then, shows that the Lord was preparing to bring good people to him, and would join their desires for good with the spiritual truth he was to reveal during his ministry.
