Explanation of Matthew 5:5

വഴി Brian David

The "meek" in the Bible are, according to the Writings, those in "the good of charity," which means they love to do what is good for others. To "inherit" means that we are given possessions by the Lord – He implants in us the true love of good. This might sound like a subtle difference, but moving from the desire to do good things for people to a state in which we truly love other people is actually significant.

"Earth" here could also be translated as "land." Both generally represent a church, from the beliefs among angels in heaven to the beliefs of a like-minded group in this world to the beliefs we each hold as individuals; of the two, though, "earth" tends to represent the external, day-to-day thoughts. That's not the case here; the Writings tell us this verse means that caring people will be elevated to a state of mutual love in heaven, a love expressed through angelic wisdom.
