The words that come immediately before also point to this, that is to say, that 'Abraham travelled from there towards the land of the south', which means the Lord's advances into goods and truths of faith; and now that it is said that 'he dwelt between Kadesh and Shur', by which it follows that nothing else is meant than the Lord's state specifically, which is described by 'Kadesh' and 'Shur', to be dealt with next.

Gerar, as in Genesis 10:19, signifies things revealed concerning faith.
