Explanation of Deuteronomy 22:10

Verse 10. You can not work out your salvation in the natural mind from good and from truth at the same time as primary agents (that is to say, either the mind is in the love of good from which it selects truths which agree with that good; or else the mind is in the love of truths, and by them forms an idea of what is good; and it cannot be in both states at the same time).

1552. 'And gold' means goods deriving from truths. This is clear from the meaning of 'gold' as celestial good, or the good of wisdom and love, as is clear from what has just been shown and also from what was shown previously in 113. That here they are goods deriving from truths follows from what was stated in the previous chapter about the Lord's joining intellectual truths to celestial things.
