'To hearken,' as mentioned in Genesis 30:22, signifies providence. 'To hearken to father and mother,' as mentioned in Genesis 28:7, signifies obedience from affection.

3684. 'And that Jacob had listened to his father and to his mother' [means obedience and affection]. This is clear from the meaning of 'listening to someone' or hearkening as obeying, dealt with in 2542. Doing so 'to father and mother' means obedience due to affection.
