¹ เกี่ยวด้วยเรื่องคนอัมโมน พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสว่า "อิสราเอลไม่มีบุตรชายหรือ เขาไม่มีทายาทหรือ แล้วทำไมกษัตริย์ของพวกเขาจึงรับกาดเป็นมรดก และประชาชนของท่านอาศัยอยู่ในหัวเมืองของท่าน

² พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสว่า เพราะฉะนั้น ดูเถิด วันเวลาจะมาถึง เมื่อเราจะกระทำให้ได้ยินเสียงสัญญาณสงครามในนครรับบาห์ของคนอัมโมน มันจะกลายเป็นกองซากปรักหักพัง และธิดาทั้งหลายของเมืองนั้นจะถูกเผาเสียด้วยไฟ แล้วอิสราเอลจะเป็นทายาทของคนเหล่านั้นที่เคยเป็นทายาทของเขาอีก พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้แหละ

³ เฮชโบนเอ๋ย จงคร่ำครวญ เพราะเมืองอัยถูกทำลาย บุตรสาวแห่งนครรับบาห์เอ๋ย จงร้องร่ำไร จงเอาผ้ากระสอบคาดเอวไว้ จงโอดครวญ วิ่งไปวิ่งมาอยู่ท่ามกลางรั้วต้นไม้ เพราะกษัตริย์ของพวกเขาจะต้องถูกกวาดไปเป็นเชลย พร้อมกับปุโรหิตและเจ้านายของมัน

⁴ บุตรสาวผู้กลับสัตย์เอ๋ย ทำไมเจ้าโอ้อวดบรรดาหุบเขา หุบเขาของเจ้ามีน้ำไหล ผู้วางใจในสมบัติของตนว่า `ใครจะมาสู้ฉันนะ'

⁵ องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้าจอมโยธาตรัสว่า ดูเถิด เราจะนำความสยดสยองมาเหนือเจ้า จากทุกคนที่อยู่รอบตัวเจ้า และเจ้าจะถูกขับไล่ออกไป ชายทุกคนตรงหน้าเขาออกไป และจะไม่มีใครรวบรวมคนลี้ภัยได้

⁶ แต่ภายหลังเราจะให้คนอัมโมนกลับสู่สภาพเดิม" พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้แหละ

⁷ เกี่ยวกับเรื่องเมืองเอโดม พระเยโฮวาห์จอมโยธา ตรัสดังนี้ว่า "สติปัญญาไม่มีในเทมานอีกแล้วหรือ คำปรึกษาพินาศไปจากผู้เฉลียวฉลาดแล้วหรือ สติปัญญาของเขาหายสูญไปเสียแล้วหรือ

⁸ ชาวเมืองเดดานเอ๋ย จงหนี จงหันกลับ จงอาศัยในที่ลึก เพราะว่าเราจะนำภัยพิบัติของเอซาวมาเหนือเขา เวลาเมื่อเราจะลงโทษเขา

⁹ ถ้าคนเก็บองุ่นมาหาเจ้า เขาจะไม่ทิ้งองุ่นตกค้างไว้บ้างหรือ ถ้าขโมยมาเวลากลางคืน เขาจะไม่ทำลายเพียงพอแก่ตัวเขาเท่านั้นหรือ

¹⁰ แต่เราได้เปลือยเอซาวให้เปลือยเลย เราได้เปิดที่ซ่อนของเขา และเขาไม่สามารถซ่อนตัวได้ เชื้อสายของเขาถูกทำลาย และพี่น้องของเขา และเพื่อนบ้านของเขา ไม่มีเขาอีกแล้ว

¹¹ จงทิ้งเด็กกำพร้าพ่อของเจ้าไว้เถิด เราจะให้เขามีชีวิตอยู่ และให้แม่ม่ายของเจ้าวางใจในเราเถิด"

¹² เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้ว่า "ดูเถิด ถ้าคนที่ยังไม่สมควรจะดื่มจากถ้วยนั้นยังต้องดื่ม เจ้าจะพ้นโทษไปได้หรือ เจ้าจะพ้นโทษไปไม่ได้ เจ้าจะต้องดื่ม

¹³ พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสว่า เราได้ปฏิญาณต่อตัวของเราเองว่า โบสราห์จะต้องกลายเป็นที่รกร้าง เป็นที่ตำหนิติเตียน เป็นที่ที่ถูกทิ้งไว้เสียเปล่า และเป็นคำสาปแช่ง และหัวเมืองทั้งสิ้นของเขาจะเป็นที่ที่ถูกทิ้งไว้เสียเปล่าอยู่เนืองนิตย์"

¹⁴ ข้าพเจ้าได้ยินข่าวลือจากพระเยโฮวาห์ ทูตคนหนึ่งถูกส่งไปท่ามกลางบรรดาประชาชาติ บอกว่า "จงรวบรวมเจ้าทั้งหลายเข้า และมาต่อสู้เมืองนั้น และลุกขึ้นเพื่อกระทำสงครามเถิด

¹⁵ เพราะว่า ดูเถิด เราจะกระทำเจ้าให้เล็กท่ามกลางบรรดาประชาชาติ ให้เป็นที่ดูหมิ่นท่ามกลางมนุษย์

¹⁶ เพราะความหวาดเสียวของเจ้าได้หลอกลวงเจ้า ทั้งความเห่อเหิมแห่งใจของเจ้า เจ้าผู้ซึ่งอาศัยอยู่ในซอกหิน ผู้ยึดยอดภูเขาไว้เอ๋ย แม้เจ้าทำรังของเจ้าสูงเหมือนอย่างรังนกอินทรี เราจะฉุดเจ้าลงมาจากที่นั่น พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้แหละ

¹⁷ เอโดมจะกลายเป็นที่รกร้าง ทุกคนที่ผ่านเอโดมจะตกตะลึง และจะเย้ยหยันในภัยพิบัติทั้งสิ้นของมัน

¹⁸ อย่างเมื่อเมืองโสโดม และเมืองโกโมราห์ และหัวเมืองใกล้เคียงของมันถูกทำลายล้าง พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสว่า ไม่มีใครจะพำนักอยู่ที่นั่น ไม่มีบุตรของมนุษย์คนใดจะอาศัยในเมืองนั้น

¹⁹ ดูเถิด เขาจะขึ้นมาอย่างสิงโตจากคลื่นของลุ่มแม่น้ำจอร์แดนโจนเข้าใส่คอกของแกะที่แข็งแรง แต่เราจะกระทำให้เขาวิ่งหนีเธอไปอย่างฉับพลัน และใครเป็นผู้ที่เลือกสรรไว้ ที่เราจะแต่งตั้งไว้เหนือเธอ ใครเป็นอย่างเราเล่า ใครจะนัดเราเล่า ผู้เลี้ยงแกะคนใดจะทนยืนอยู่ต่อหน้าเราได้

²⁰ เพราะฉะนั้นจงฟังคำปรีกษาซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเตรียมไว้ต่อสู้เมืองเอโดม และพระประสงค์ทั้งหลายซึ่งพระองค์ได้ดำริไว้ต่อสู้ชาวเมืองเทมาน แน่ล่ะ ถึงตัวเล็กที่สุดในฝูงก็จะต้องถูกลากเอาไป แน่ละ พระองค์จะทรงกระทำให้ที่อาศัยของเขาร้างเปล่าไปพร้อมกับเขาด้วย

²¹ แผ่นดินโลกสั่นสะเทือนเพราะเสียงที่มันล้ม เสียงคร่ำครวญของเขาได้ยินถึงทะเลแดง

²² ดูเถิด ผู้หนึ่งจะเหาะขึ้นและโฉบลงเหมือนนกอินทรี และกางปีกของมันออกสู้โบสราห์ และจิตใจของนักรบแห่งเอโดมในวันนั้นจะเป็นเหมือนจิตใจของหญิงปวดท้องคลอดบุตร

²³ เกี่ยวด้วยเรื่องเมืองดามัสกัส เมืองฮามัทและเมืองอารปัดได้ขายหน้า เพราะเขาทั้งหลายได้ยินข่าวร้าย เขาก็กลัวลาน ทะเลก็ทุรนทุราย มันสงบลงไม่ได้

²⁴ เมืองดามัสกัสก็อ่อนเพลียแล้ว เธอหันหนีและความกลัวจนตัวสั่นจับเธอไว้ ความแสนระทมและความเศร้ายึดเธอไว้อย่างผู้หญิงกำลังคลอดบุตร

²⁵ เมืองแห่งการสรรเสริญนั้นถูกทอดทิ้งแล้วหนอ คือเมืองที่เต็มด้วยความชื่นบานนั่นน่ะ

²⁶ เพราะฉะนั้นคนหนุ่มๆของเมืองนั้นจะล้มลงตามถนนทั้งหลายในเมืองนั้น และบรรดาทหารของเมืองนั้นจะถูกตัดออกในวันนั้น พระเยโฮวาห์จอมโยธาตรัสดังนี้แหละ

²⁷ และเราจะก่อไฟขึ้นในกำแพงเมืองดามัสกัส และไฟนั้นจะกินพระราชวังของเบนฮาดัดเสีย

²⁸ เกี่ยวด้วยเรื่องคนเคดาร์และราชอาณาจักรฮาโซร์ ซึ่งเนบูคัดเนสซาร์กษัตริย์แห่งบาบิโลนจะโจมตี พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้ว่า จงลุกขึ้น รุดเข้าไปสู้คนเคดาร์ จงทำลายประชาชนแห่งตะวันออกเสีย

²⁹ เต็นท์และฝูงแพะแกะของเขาจะถูกริบเสีย ทั้งม่านและภาชนะทั้งสิ้นของเขา อูฐของเขาจะถูกนำเอาไปจากเขา และคนจะร้องแก่เขาว่า `ความสยดสยองทุกด้าน'

³⁰ พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสว่า ชาวเมืองฮาโซร์เอ๋ย หนีเถิด จงสัญจรไปไกล ไปอาศัยในที่ลึก เพราะเนบูคัดเนสซาร์กษัตริย์แห่งบาบิโลนได้ดำริแผนงานต่อสู้เจ้า และก่อตั้งความประสงค์ไว้สู้เจ้า

³¹ พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสว่า จงลุกขึ้น รุดหน้าไปสู้ประชาชาติหนึ่งที่มั่งมี ซึ่งอาศัยอยู่อย่างมั่นคง ไม่มีประตูเมืองและไม่มีดาลประตู อยู่แต่ลำพัง

³² อูฐของเขาทั้งหลายจะกลายเป็นของที่ปล้นมาได้ และฝูงวัวอันมากมายของเขาจะเป็นของที่ริบมา พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสว่า เราจะกระจายเขาไปทุกทิศลม คือคนที่อยู่ในมุมที่ไกลที่สุด และเราจะนำภัยพิบัติมาจากทุกด้านของเขา

³³ เมืองฮาโซร์จะเป็นที่อาศัยของมังกร เป็นที่ที่ถูกทิ้งไว้ให้รกร้างอยู่เป็นนิตย์ ไม่มีใครจะพำนักที่นั่น ไม่มีบุตรของมนุษย์คนใดจะอาศัยในเมืองนั้น"

³⁴ พระวจนะของพระเยโฮวาห์ ซึ่งมายังเยเรมีย์ผู้พยากรณ์เกี่ยวด้วยเรื่องเมืองเอลามในตอนต้นรัชกาลเศเดคียาห์กษัตริย์แห่งยูดาห์ว่า

³⁵ "พระเยโฮวาห์จอมโยธาตรัสดังนี้ว่า ดูเถิด เราจะหักคันธนูของเอลาม ซึ่งเป็นหัวใจแห่งกำลังของเขาทั้งหลาย

³⁶ และเราจะนำลมทั้งสี่ทิศจากฟ้าทั้งสี่ส่วนมาสู้เอลาม และเราจะกระจายเขาไปตามลมเหล่านั้นทั้งหมด จะไม่มีประชาชาติใดซึ่งผู้ถูกขับไล่ออกไปจากเอลามจะมาไม่ถึง

³⁷ ด้วยว่าเราจะกระทำให้เอลามสยดสยองต่อหน้าศัตรูของเขาทั้งหลาย และต่อหน้าผู้ที่แสวงหาชีวิตของเขา พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสว่า เราจะนำเหตุร้ายมาถึงเขาทั้งหลาย คือความพิโรธอันแรงกล้า เราจะใช้ให้ดาบไล่ตามเขาทั้งหลาย จนกว่าเราจะได้เผาผลาญเขาเสีย

³⁸ และเราจะตั้งพระที่นั่งของเราในเอลาม และจะทำลายกษัตริย์และบรรดาเจ้านายของเขาทั้งหลาย พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้

³⁹ พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสว่า แต่ในกาลต่อไปเราจะให้เอลามกลับสู่สภาพเดิม"

¹ Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of livestock: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that behold, the place was a place for livestock;

² the children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spoke to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the princes of the congregation, saying,

³ "Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Sebam, and Nebo, and Beon,

⁴ the land which Yahweh struck before the congregation of Israel, is a land for livestock; and your servants have livestock."

⁵ They said, "If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession; don't bring us over the Jordan."

⁶ Moses said to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, "Shall your brothers go to the war, and shall you sit here?

⁷ Why do you discourage the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which Yahweh has given them?

⁸ Your fathers did so when I sent them from Kadesh Barnea to see the land.

⁹ For when they went up to the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which Yahweh had given them.

¹⁰ Yahweh's anger was kindled in that day, and he swore, saying,

¹¹ 'Surely none of the men who came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:

¹² except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, and Joshua the son of Nun; because they have followed Yahweh completely.'

¹³ Yahweh's anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander back and forth in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, who had done evil in the sight of Yahweh, was consumed.

¹⁴ "Behold, you have risen up in your fathers' place, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of Yahweh toward Israel.

¹⁵ For if you turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and you will destroy all this people."

¹⁶ They came near to him, and said, "We will build sheepfolds here for our livestock, and cities for our little ones:

¹⁷ but we ourselves will be ready armed to go before the children of Israel, until we have brought them to their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land.

¹⁸ We will not return to our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance.

¹⁹ For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan, and forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side of the Jordan eastward."

²⁰ Moses said to them, "If you will do this thing, if you will arm yourselves to go before Yahweh to the war,

²¹ and every armed man of you will pass over the Jordan before Yahweh, until he has driven out his enemies from before him,

²² and the land is subdued before Yahweh; then afterward you shall return, and be guiltless towards Yahweh, and towards Israel; and this land shall be to you for a possession before Yahweh.

²³ "But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against Yahweh; and be sure your sin will find you out.

²⁴ Build cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which has proceeded out of your mouth."

²⁵ The children of Gad and the children of Reuben spoke to Moses, saying, "Your servants will do as my lord commands.

²⁶ Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our livestock, shall be there in the cities of Gilead;

²⁷ but your servants will pass over, every man who is armed for war, before Yahweh to battle, as my lord says."

²⁸ So Moses commanded concerning them to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the heads of the fathers' [houses] of the tribes of the children of Israel.

²⁹ Moses said to them, "If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over the Jordan, every man who is armed to battle, before Yahweh, and the land shall be subdued before you; then you shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession:

³⁰ but if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan."

³¹ The children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, "As Yahweh has said to your servants, so will we do.

³² We will pass over armed before Yahweh into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance [shall remain] with us beyond the Jordan."

³³ Moses gave to them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, according to the cities of it with [their] borders, even the cities of the surrounding land.

³⁴ The children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,

³⁵ and Atrothshophan, and Jazer, and Jogbehah,

³⁶ and Beth Nimrah, and Beth Haran: fortified cities, and folds for sheep.

³⁷ The children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kiriathaim,

³⁸ and Nebo, and Baal Meon, (their names being changed), and Sibmah: and they gave other names to the cities which they built.

³⁹ The children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, and took it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were therein.

⁴⁰ Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh; and he lived therein.

⁴¹ Jair the son of Manasseh went and took its towns, and called them Havvoth Jair.

⁴² Nobah went and took Kenath, and its villages, and called it Nobah, after his own name.
