877. 'The waters were over the face ¹ of the earth' means that falsities were still there to overflowing. This is clear from the meaning of 'the waters of the flood' as falsities, as shown adequately already, and so from the very words themselves.

In the same way, in 1 Kings 13:4-6, 'Jereboam' reaching out his hand signifies self-ability, or proprium. This is profane, because it desires to violate holiness by reaching a hand against the person of God. That is why his hand gets dried up.
