8059. And in the seventh day is a feast to Jehovah. That this signifies the holy worship of the Lord, is evident from the signification of “the seventh day,” as being a holy state (that “day” denotes state, see n. 23, 487, 488, 493, 893, 2788, 3462, 3785, 4850, 5672, 5962; and that “seven” denotes what is holy, n. 395, 433, 716, 881, 5265, 5268); and from the signification of “a feast to Jehovah,” as being the worship of the Lord. 881. That “seven” signifies what is holy, because charity is now treated of, is evident from the signification of “seven” (concerning which above, n. 395, 716. Moreover “seven” is inserted here for the coherence of all things historically, as “seven” and “seven days” in the natural sense add nothing but a certain holiness, which this second state has from the celestial, that is, from charity.
