That this signifies that from these falsities they fight, is evident from the signification of “shooting at,” as being to fight from falsities; for a “bow” signifies doctrine, and “arrows” or “darts” those things which are of doctrine; thus the truths of doctrine with those who are in truths, and the falsities of doctrine with those who are in falsities (see n. 2686, 2709). That “to shoot” here denotes to fight from falsities, is because the subject here treated of is those who are in falsities.
