Verse 5. And you shall confess before the Lord your God and acknowledge that the beginning of your regenerate life was but a few knowledges of good and truth ready to perish, and these degenerated to mere scientifics, amongst which few truths were left—that is to say, all religion consisted in a mere system of dogmas not understood, —and that you were in that state instructed in genuine truths grounded in good, full of power to gift the soul with true charity, and mighty against falsities and immensely increased:

2236. 'In order that Jehovah may bring upon Abraham that which He has spoken concerning him' means that the Human Essence will for that reason be joined to the Divine Essence. This is not so clear from the meaning of the words here, but it is clear from the consideration that everything stated in the Word implies the Lord's Coming to unite the Human Essence to the Divine Essence, by means of which, once these were united, He would save the human race. These are the things that are meant in the internal sense by the statement that He would bring upon Abraham that which He had spoken concerning him.
