373. Verse 10 And He said, What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood ¹ is crying out to me from the ground.

'The voice of Your brother's blood ¹ means violence done to charity. 'Blood' calling out means guilt, and 'the ground' schism or heresy.

The first of those born to Leah by Jacob had a similar meaning. Reuben meant faith; Simeon, faith expressed in action; Levi, charity, Genesis 29:32-34. This also was why the tribe of Levi assumed the function of the priesthood and became representative of the shepherd of the flock.
