Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent as far as Sodom. “Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan,” signifies that the internal man was in the celestial things of love; “and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain,” signifies that the external man was in memory-knowledges; “and pitched his tent as far as Sodom,” signifies extension to cupidities.
