5966. 'And they told him, saying' means influx and discernment. This is clear from the meaning of 'telling' as being communicated and being joined together, dealt with in 4856, 5596, and so also influx since what is told by one passes into the thought of another; and from the meaning of 'saying' in historical narratives of the Word as perception, dealt with often, and so also discernment.
