9041. 'And when men brawl' means serious contention between truths. This is clear from the meaning of 'brawling' as serious contention; and from the meaning of 'men', at this point from among the children of Israel, as those who belong to the Church and know its truths, in the abstract sense as the Church's truths, dealt with above in 9034.
