436. 9:9 "또 철 흉갑 같은 흉갑이 있고 그 날개들의 소리는 병거와 많은 말들이 전장으로 달려 들어가는 소리 같으며"

"또 철 흉갑같이 흉갑이 있고"는 그것으로 그들이 싸우고 펼치는 그리고 그것이 그들에게는 그렇게도 힘차 보여서 아무도 그들을 논박(論駁)할 수 없을 것으로 보이는 오류(誤謬)에 근거한 논증을 뜻한다.

"흉갑"은 방어를 뜻한다. 그것이 가슴을 보호하기 때문이다. 여기서는 거짓의 방어요, 오류에서 나온 논증으로 말미암아 일어난 것이요, 그것으로 그릇된 원리를 방어하는 것을 뜻한다. 그릇된 원리에서는 거짓밖에는 나오지 않기 때문이다. 혹 진리를 내보낸다 할 지라도 그 진리는 겉만 보고 피상적으로만 따라서 감각적으로만 보아서 내보내는 것이요, 여기서 위화된 것이요, 이러한 사람들에게 있어서는 진리는 오류가 되는 것이다. 왜 "흉갑"이 이러한 뜻을 가지고 있는가? 말씀 가운데 "전쟁"은 영적 전쟁을 뜻하며 이로써 전쟁 무기는 이러한 전쟁에 관한 여러 가지 것을 뜻하기 때문이다.

"너희 기병이여 말에 안장을 지워 타며 투구를 쓰며 창을 갈며 갑옷을 입으라"(예레미아 46:4)

"의로 호심경을 삼으시며 구원을 그 머리에 써서 투구를 삼으시며"(이사야 59:17)

"네가 그 날개 아래 피하리로다. 그의 진실함은 방패와 손방패가 되나니"(시편 91:4)

그밖에도 에스겔 23:24; 38:4; 39:9; 나훔 2:3; 시편 5:12; 35:2-3.

"철 흉갑 같은 흉갑"은 그들에게는 아주 강해서 아무도 그들을 논박할 수 없게 보이는 그들의 논증을 뜻한다. "철"은 그 단단한 것으로 말미암아 강한 것을 뜻하기 때문이다.

It is an entirely general and all-embracing law that the Lord is the Sun of heaven and that this is the source of all the light in the next life; that nothing at all from the light of the world is visible to angels and spirits, that is, to beings in the next life; and also that the light of the world which comes from the sun is to angels nothing else than thick darkness. From the Sun of heaven, or the Lord, comes not only light but also warmth; but these are spiritual light and spiritual warmth. The light that strikes their eyes is seen as light but it holds intelligence and wisdom within it since it is the outward manifestation of these. And the warmth is experienced by their senses as warmth but has love within it since it is the outward manifestation of that love. This being so, love is called spiritual warmth and is also the producer of the warmth which man's life possesses, while intelligence is called spiritual light and is also the producer of the light which his life possesses. From this all-inclusive correspondence all other correspondences are derived, for every single thing has regard to good which belongs to love and to truth which belongs to intelligence.
